Year 4

Welcome to Year 4
We would like to welcome each child and their families to Year 4! Already, after just two weeks with us we are amazed at how well everyone has adapted to our new routines, as well as stepping up to the challenge of new and exciting learning.
Our Learning:
We have started this busy new term with new learning in both Maths and English. In maths pupils have been learning about Place Value of numbers to 10000, please ask your child to point out and talk about numbers you see in the environment.
In English we have been linking our learning to the text ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers, Year 4 have written wonderful poems celebrating our world and those we share it with.
Reading- as well as reading as part of our English lessons, pupils are read to daily. At the moment the children are enjoying listening to ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’. Reading for enjoyment is a crucial part of becoming a reader. All children have a choice book from the class shelves as well as a School Reader- we have a selection of scheme books that are specifically for KS2. Please continue to hear your child read at least 3 times a week, pupils can also record in their records independently. Pupils should be able to read most words in their scheme books independently. Please see the links below for ideas if your child is not sure what to read next!
Our routines:
PE will be on Monday and Wednesday this term, please ensure a warm layer is worn as we will be outside as much as possible.
Home Learning will be sent home on a Friday, please return folders by the following Thursday. (If you still have your folder at home please send it in!)
Weekly spelling tests will take place on a Friday, combining Year 4 statutory words as well as taught spelling patterns. Weekly x tables tests will take place on a Monday.
Reading – pupils have reading time in school daily, pupils should bring in their reading record as well their books which they can change during this session.
Please bring in a bottle of water.
The Year 4 Team:
Mrs Minty, Mrs Warman, Mrs Dutton and Mrs Claremont
We look forward to meeting with you over the year – over the phone is best at the moment. Please contact us  via the School Office. Thank You.

You will get your first set of Home Learning this Friday 2nd October. You will all have been given your Professor Assessor log in and will have stuck these into your Reading Records. Every 2 weeks there will be further optional maths Home Learning on here which will consolidate the learning in class. This will start from next Monday 5th October.
