  • Please continue to read and re-read the reading books (Phonics Scheme books only- 'Big Cat' books) that we send home daily.
  • School Trip permission and payment is needed if you have not already.
  • Class Trip is on Monday 20th May.

Reading
Your child will continue to bring home their Letters and Sounds reading book every day to share with you and you will have already been well trained to look at the tricky words and new vocabulary as well as helping children to sound out the words, building up to reading the whole book fluently over the week. Please could your child bring in their reading folder every day-the books will be changed Friday. We are setting up our Guided Reading groups in class where children will read together each week with the teacher in small groups. Again, these will be Letters and Sounds books at the appropriate level, but they are different to the books that go home. Children will also work each week with one of our TAs on comprehension skills so that they learn to read for information and are able to answer questions about the text.

Teaching of phonics and spelling
You will already have received your spellings for Term One and the ideas within that document to help the children learn their spellings. For Term 2 the spellings for the term will all be on Google Classroom. Your child will be tested in class every Wednesday. As a school we have graduated with the English Hub Project. We follow the scheme 'Unlocking Letters and Sounds' to teach phonics and we are using the 'Big Cats' reading scheme. Please see the reading part of our website for more information.

Maths
In class we will be following the NCETM Maths scheme for mathematics as well as doing Daily Maths Mobius sessions. Maths home learning will be Professor Assessor. New log in details will be given out in the first few weeks.
We really appreciate all help that you can give your child in helping them learn their Number Bonds to 20, 2x, 5x and 10x tables and also in telling the time. Using an analogue clock, we will be working on telling the time to o’clock, ½ past, ¼ past and ¼ to this year. Some children will then be able to go on to understanding five-minute intervals-5 past, 10 past etc. linking also to the digital time. Thank you in advance for all your help!
PE
This term, our class PE lessons will be on Mondays and Fridays. Please remember to send your child to school in their PE ‘uniform’ on these days.
Everything else!
We follow a wide, creative curriculum and children will be taking part in music and art lessons, ICT and DT as well as following the Geography and History curriculum for Year 2.
Water Bottles
Please ensure your child brings a named bottle to school every day, filled with water, not squash. The children are allowed to fill their water bottles up during the day if they run out. Please ensure water bottles are taken home regularly and washed. We have daily fruit snacks in the classroom.

Please help your child to take responsibility themselves for the things that they need to remember. Perhaps your child could cut out the timetable and place it somewhere at home or in their school bag to remind them each day.
