The reading scheme is designed to link with the curriculum levels and is colour coded accordingly. The core of the scheme is the books typed in bold print. These are taken from the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme. Other books colour coded in the same way are to provide a variety of genre, including play scripts and non- fiction texts. They should also extend vocabulary.
All books are numbered. It is recommended that that core books are read in sequence, after that however any book at the same level can be chosen. The numbers can then be crossed off in the back of the child’s reading record.
Moving up to the next level is at the teacher’s discretion and based not just on fluency but comprehension and understanding of the texts.
