Welcome to Term 6  in Year 2!

We hope you and your family had a wonderful and restful Half Term break! 

This term we will be learning about Japan in Geography and we will be learning all about famous scientists in Science. In English we will be learning about stories from Australia!

Home Learning in Year 2

Home learning will continue. Our Maths home learning is Times Tables Rock Stars. Spellings continue to be tested every Wednesday. We will send home all the spellings for the term in the first week of every term.

Spellings

We encourage children to learn spellings using the Look, Cover, Write, Check method, following the sequence:

LOOK at the word

COVER the word

WRITE the word

CHECK their spelling against the word.

Reading

Your child will continue to bring home a reading book every day to share with you. 'Free Reading’ books may be chosen from the class library. Comics and easy books are also great to read as they can improve comprehension skills and give ideas for story writing, but they will not stretch their vocabulary and reading ability. Please encourage your child to read with expression, and to express opinions about the characters in the story, the plot, and what might happen next. Reading books and reading record should be brought to school each day. Reading books are always changed on a Monday.

Maths

This term we will be doing a weekly times table test. We will send home a booklet which will help the children to learn at home. The test will be straight after our spelling test on a Wednesday.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child brings a named bottle to school every day, filled with water. The children are allowed to fill their water bottles up during the day if they run out. Please ensure water bottles are taken home regularly and washed.
