Dear parents,

If you would like some ideas for next week, I have put one final home learning challenge sheet in the Home Learning folder.

It was so lovely to have some of the children together today. Thank you so much for sending them in, we had lots of fun!

I hope you all have a fab summer,

All the best,

Miss Jones smiley

Dear parents and children,

I just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU for my lovely gifts and for the fantastic video from the children!heart

I watched the video this afternoon with yellow bubble and it brought tears to my eyes. Something I will keep and treasure forever. It has been an absolute pleasure having your children in my class this year! It has been a very unique year and one we will never forget. Thank you for your excellent participation and communication during lockdown. I hope you all have a wonderful summer!

I cannot wait to see all the children together again in September so I can give them the best possible transition into Year 1. We will have a celebration!

Best wishes,

Miss Jones

Hello Reception Class J

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday and enjoyed lots of downtime along with eating some yummy chocolate (below you’ll find a picture of me with my Easter egg and my favourite Easter bunny). I wonder if the Easter bunny visited you… I wonder what chocolate egg you received…

I had a really relaxing and calm holiday where I spent most of my time in the garden with my two cats, Luna and Nala. I let them out for the first time and they really enjoyed it. They now love the outdoors.

Our new Summer Term will start on Monday 20th April. We will be spending a bit more time at home with our loved ones; which is really exciting. So, below, you will find a range of planned learning activities for you to do at home. I hope you enjoy this week’s learning and I look forward to hearing how you got on with them and any other creative things you have been doing.

Look after yourselves and keep smiling!

Miss Jones

P.S.   Mrs Fudge, Mrs Highmore and Mrs Garvin want to say a HUGH HELLO and that they are MISSING YOU ALL VERY MUCH!

Week 1 - Home Learning w/b 20/04/20

31/03/2020

Good morning to all the Reception Children J

I hope that you and your families are well and are enjoying your time at home together. I hope you are finding the home learning packs useful and have tried lots of the activities. I’ve been working in school and at home as well as enjoying the sunshine in my garden. I’ve even tried the Joe Wick’s PE lessons on YouTube!

I am looking forward to seeing your red workbooks when we go back to school. I have uploaded some 'Easter Enrichment Activities' that you could try over the Easter holidays (look in the 'Chick' folder above). After the Easter holidays, we will be posting weekly learning packs.

The Reception staff are missing you all and your smiley faces.

I hope you all have a fantastic week at home - keep smiling!

Take care,

Miss Jones

25/3/2020

Last week, the children created a card and mini happiness pictures for a group of elderly people who live in a care home in Midsomer Norton, near Radstock. We wanted to spread kindness and happiness during our last week of school. Today (25/3/2020), I received a reply from the care home. Please can you share this with your child:

''To all the children in the reception class

On behalf of all the residents and staff at Combe Lea, I would like to thank you for the lovely pictures you sent in for them.

Our residents had a lovely afternoon looking at all the pictures. They are now on display in the lounge and will continue to brighten their days.

We wish you all well and appreciate your kindness.''

''Superheroes''

Spring - Term 4

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and are now feeling excited about Spring Term 4. This term we will be learning about ‘Superheroes’ and we will start the term with ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra.  The children created a 'Superhero Cave' at the end of last term so we are ready for lots of adventures! Open up the Spring term 4 learning web to see our exciting plans! You will also find a new copy of our class timetable as well as challenging vocabulary that you can use at home with your child. Please ensure your child is completing the weekly home learning and remember you will receive one reading book per week. If you need more information about this, please see any EYFS staff member or grab a letter from the notice board.

This term for our Gem Project we are continuing to work on our Ruby Power which is supporting others and giving praise. The class will also continue to use their Diamond Power and develop their independence skills and show that they can solve their own problems. Please promote this at home – can your child get dressed by themselves?

PE will be on Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure children have both indoor and outdoor PE kits in school.

We have an open door policy so, if you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you all in the new term.

''On the Farm''

Spring - Term 3

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas holiday and are now feeling excited about Spring Term. To inspire us in our learning we will be starting with the books ‘What the Ladybird heard’ and ‘What the Ladybird heard next’ by Julia Donaldson. This term, we are going to learn about the different types of farm animals, what it means to be healthy, learn about farm shops and how to use money in our play.  We will be trying freshly, grown fruits and talking about how and why farmers grow fruit and vegetables. We will be creating our own treasure maps in English. In Religion, we will continue to discuss and learn about the events which took place during Christmas. Take a look at the term 3 learning web under the curriculum tab.

Thank you for all the Home Learning that you're doing with your children, particularly reading. The children are clearly making great progress.

This term the children will learn about the Diamond and Ruby power and how we can use these in our play. Diamond power will help us to become problem solvers  and independent learners and the Ruby power will teach us how to support and give praise to others. To start the New Year we will also create New Year promises.

PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon with Miss Jones. We are very lucky this term because we will also have a gymnastic coach teaching us on a Friday morning.  Please ensure children have PE kits in school at all times.

We have an open door policy so, if you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you all in the new term.

WELCOME TO RECEPTION CLASS!

Autumn - Term 1

What a brilliant three days we have had! The staff in Reception Class are so proud of our new, little stars and so pleased to see them settle this week!

This term our topic is ‘All About Me’. This is a great opportunity for your children to tell us all about themselves, what they enjoy/dislike and about the special people in their lives. We will be looking at a range of story books to support our topic. The first story book we will enjoy is ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. We will be creating a family tree display (all the people that live with us) in our classroom. Please can you send in a photo of your family to go on the display.

Please take a look at our Learning Web (in the curriculum folder) to find out more about the upcoming term.

I hope to see you all at the Parents' Information Afternoon on Monday 30th September at 2.15pm.
