Welcome to Term 1 in Year 2!

We hope you and your family had a wonderful and restful holiday! 

This term we will be learning about Corsham in History and we will be learning all about Growth and Wellbeing in Science. In English we will be reading and writing all about The Koala Who Could book.

Home Learning in Year 2

Home learning will continue. We will send home all the spellings for the term in the first week of every term. Spellings are tested on a Wednesday and a small slip of paper will go home to say your child's results. For Maths we set TT Rockstars multiplication. Later in the year we will also do a times table test on a Wednesday too so it is a good idea to start learning straight away. All the details of this will be sent home in a Year 2 pack in week two.

Spellings

We encourage children to learn spellings using the Look, Cover, Write, Check method, following the sequence:

LOOK at the word

COVER the word

WRITE the word

CHECK their spelling against the word.

Reading

Your child will continue to bring home a reading book every day to share with you. 'Free Reading’ books may be chosen from the class library. Comics and easy books are also great to read as they can improve comprehension skills and give ideas for story writing, but they will not stretch their vocabulary and reading ability. Please encourage your child to read with expression, and to express opinions about the characters in the story, the plot, and what might happen next. Reading books and reading record should be brought to school each day. Reading books are always changed on a Monday.

Maths

This term we will be looking at place value and addition and subtraction.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child brings a named bottle to school every day, filled with water. The children are allowed to fill their water bottles up during the day if they run out. Please ensure water bottles are taken home regularly and washed.
